and scoop second place too …..

Café Krem is the best coffee shop in Northern Ireland .

It would be hard to dispute that claim after owner Se Gorman was named best coffee maker in the Country at the Northern Ireland finals of the prestigious World Barista Championship.

He will now go on to represent Northern Ireland at the UK Final in London on February 23rd in front of a full house at Hotelympia the largest Catering exhibition held at ExCel in Londons docklands - And victory there where he is one of the favourites will see him go on to The World Final in Switzerland in May.

Se explained how he wowed the judges with a variety of coffees. “I had a 15 minute period to make four perfect espressos, four cappuccinos and four signature beverages” he said

“It had to be something different so I went for a single origin organic chocolate from the island of Vanuate in the Pacific as an ingredient in my signature drink - I also used a special espresso blend that I created with my coffee consultant Belfast world guru Hugh Gilmartin and earned extra points for latte art”

Se’s success will come as little surprise to regular Café Krem customers in Newry & Banbridge who have been enjoying his coffee for the past five years. What was particularly pleasing for them was that Café Krem’s Banbridge Manager French Coffee Star Emile Lafore was second so it’s a clean sweep at this year’s championship for the local coffee stars.

Expressing his delight at the win Se added “ All our customers know we do the best coffee but it good to have it validated by external judges from England and Scandinavia”

Se puts his success down to obsessively controlling freshness, cleanliness and extraction doing everything precisely in the right way. “To me it is a culinary art and that’s what makes it taste different. Watch out celebrity chefs …. Se Gorman is about to put Northern Ireland coffee on the world cuisine map!
